Catcher Rod Barajas went deep and had 3 RBI as the Tampico Stogies outscored
the Tombstone Huckleberries 8 to 5.
Tampico took the lead for keeps in the 3rd inning when they tallied 3 runs on
2 hits. The highlight belonged to Cliff Floyd who made the Tampico fans a
happy lot when he doubled plating two runs. Tombstone threatened in the 9th
but Tampico was able to put down the rally.
Todd Wellemeyer(11-10) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 3 runs. Wellemeyer got relief help from Frank Francisco who
gained credit for his 6th save. John Maine(3-8) ended up with the loss. He
was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 6 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Doug Salzwedel was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
